Summer Family Style

JCPenney Summer Style

This has been such a different summer for us this year – from our cross-country move to quarantining for 2 weeks with my brother’s family to (finally) moving in with my parents…it’s felt like one change after another.  I couldn’t be more proud of my kids for the way they’ve handled it all & embraced every transition with courage & optimism.  As of right now, the schools where they are enrolled for the fall plan to have in-person classes 5 days a week and, after being separated from their peers all summer long, they are really excited to start & make some new friends!

I know this year will be challenging in many ways for them, so we are doing our best to keep things feeling as normal as possible, including doing a little back-to-school shopping to update their wardrobes for fall.  JCPenney graciously sent us a gift card to pick up a few new pieces & we found some great transitional styles they can wear both now & later!

My daughter picked out this comfy utility dress mainly because she loved the color so much.  It’s a great length for school & she can stlel it multiple different ways – she wore it unbuttoned the other day with a tank & denim shorts (like a kimono/duster) and she can also layer a cardigan on top & pair with booties for the fall.

My son is really tall for his age, so he’s already outgrown boys’ clothing, but a lot of the men’s brands don’t fit him quite right.  Thankfully, we’ve discovered the Arizona line at JCPenney, which has more of a young men’s fit, and it works perfectly for him.  We got several of these basic tees in different colors (less than $8!) and these cargo shorts, which are really sturdy & will hold up through all his activities.

I honestly hadn’t planned to buy anything for myself, but this buttoned sundress was too good to pass up!  It comes in 3 solid colors and 3 different patterns, but I fell in love with this neutral stripe.  The fabric is so lightweight (without being see-through), which makes it perfect for all the hot weather we’ve been having lately.  If you have a larger bust, you might want to size up to avoid gaping between buttons – otherwise, I found it to run true to size.
